7 signs of fake reviews to check before you buy

Reviews are the first thing online shoppers look at, which is exactly why some sellers fake them. These signs help you tell the difference.

  1. Many reviews in a few days for a new product, especially if they're all 5 stars.
  2. Similar or very generic text like "great product, recommended" with no details of actual use.
  3. No middle ratings: real products usually have 3- and 4-star reviews too.
  4. Reviews about a different product: sometimes a listing is merged with an old product's page to inherit its reviews; check that the text matches the product.
  5. Professional photos in reviews that look more like ad images than a regular buyer's photos.
  6. Read the negative reviews first: if the same problem repeats (breakdowns, wrong size), it's probably real.
  7. Look for "verified purchase": many stores mark reviews from actual buyers.
At Qarin we never publish made-up reviews or claim to have tested a product we haven't; we summarize what real buyers say and make the source clear.
