E-reader or paper books?
If you read more than one book a month or travel often, this question is worth thinking about. These are the differences that matter.
| Criterion | E-reader (e-ink screen) | Paper books |
|---|---|---|
| Eye comfort | E-ink screens are unlike a phone screen, and many people find long reading comfortable | Naturally comfortable |
| Travel | A whole library in a light device | Heavy and bulky |
| Arabic books | Available but fewer than English; check that the titles you want exist digitally | The widest choice for Arabic books |
| Cost | The device first, and some e-books are cheaper | No device cost |
| Notes and highlights | Easy search, highlighting and exporting notes | By pen — more enjoyable for some |
| Kids | — | Illustrated paper books are usually better for young children |
Bottom line: an e-reader is worth it if you read a lot, travel, or mostly read in English. If you mostly read Arabic books or love paper, stick with paper — or combine both.
If you choose an e-reader
- An adjustable front light for night reading.
- Water resistance if you read by the pool or beach.
- Enough storage if you read comics or manga.
