How to choose a robot vacuum for your home
A robot vacuum saves real time, especially with the daily dust in Saudi cities. But prices vary a lot, and the real difference is in navigation and maintenance more than the "suction power" printed on the box.
1. Navigation matters more than suction
- LiDAR (laser): draws an accurate map of your home, works in low light, and lets you set rooms and no-go zones in the app. The best choice for most multi-room homes.
- Camera: good in recent models, and some recognize obstacles like cables and socks, but performance depends on lighting.
- Basic sensors (random): cheaper, but they clean in an unorganized way and take longer. Only suitable for a small apartment.
2. Suction power (Pa)
Measured in pascals. Higher numbers help with carpets and fine dust, but don't make it your only criterion — brush design and navigation quality affect results just as much.
3. Mopping: do you need it?
- If your floors are tile or marble (the most common in Saudi Arabia), mopping is useful.
- The better models lift the mop automatically over carpets so they don't get wet.
4. Auto-empty station
It empties the robot's dust into a large bag in the dock, so you only empty it every few weeks. Very convenient, but it raises the price and needs replacement bags — make sure the bags for that model are available in Saudi Arabia before buying.
5. Practical questions before you buy
- Robot height: will it fit under your sofa and bed? Measure the gap.
- Thresholds: are there thresholds between rooms? Check the maximum height the robot can climb.
- Spare parts: are brushes and filters available locally?
- App: easy to use, ideally with Arabic support if you need it.
- Warranty and agent: buying from an official seller makes servicing easier.
