How to choose your next phone
Your phone is the device you use most, and the difference between models isn't always about price. Focus on what matters to you, not the biggest number in the ad.
1. Start with how you use it
| User type | Focus on | Don't overpay for |
|---|---|---|
| Messaging and social media | Good battery, clear screen, enough storage | The most powerful chip |
| Photos and content creation | Main camera, video stabilization, storage | Many extra low-resolution lenses |
| Gaming | Processor, high refresh-rate screen, cooling | Extra cameras |
| Older adults | Large screen, loud speaker, ease of use | Flagship specs |
2. Specs that actually make a difference
- Storage: photos, videos and messaging apps fill space fast; 256 GB is comfortable for most people, 128 GB if you rely on cloud storage.
- Battery: capacity (mAh) is a hint, but chip and screen efficiency matter just as much; read user reviews about real battery life.
- Years of updates: how many years of OS and security updates does the maker promise? That decides the phone's real lifespan.
- Screen: a high refresh rate (120 Hz) makes everyday use smoother.
3. Buy with a clear warranty
- Make sure the phone is an official version with a local warranty from the agent, not an imported unit without warranty.
- Buy from the store itself or a trusted seller with many reviews.
- Check support for Saudi carriers' networks and 5G if it matters to you.
Qarin's take: a recent mid-range phone is enough for most people. A flagship is worth it if you care about pro photography or heavy gaming, or keep your phone 4+ years.
